‘Crazy Love’ Do you ever worry about your loved ones? ….stupid question!

Do you think that God worries about us, each of us, you and me, as individuals?

Surely he’s got more important people to worry about?

The answers to these two questions are emphatically yes, and no, in that order!

On the one hand, God breathed life into billions of us with apparent effortlessness and yet so save just one of us, you, me, he was prepared for and even planned the horrific death of his own Son, Jesus. He briefly turned his back on Jesus when he needed him the most, hanging on the cross. Imagine the person you love the most, and doing all that to them so that another might be saved, what does that tell you about how much he loves you? Yes, You!

We think we have the capacity to love deeply, but how reassuring to know that however much we love someone dear to us, God’s love for them goes so much deeper, with a passion and intensity that is beyond description, this is way past the abandonment of all traces rationality; it’s ‘Crazy Love’. Through our own eyes and understanding it can sometimes seem like God has abandoned us, as if he has turned his back on us.

This is so far from the truth. Whatever the circumstances, nothing bad comes from God. But if you find yourself in a difficult or painful situation, you have a choice! You can either turn your back on God, or you can lean into him, because he’s there just waiting for you to take the opportunity. If that feels too difficult, or you’ve tried hard in the past, persevere, try again, involve your friends in that prayer. It isn’t always easy to feel engaged with God, everyone struggles with this at times (or most of the time), but you belong to a church family whose delight is to help.

Others are blessed when you ask them for help, it’s not a selfish act, you are giving them an opportunity as well as seizing one yourself, and you are doing exactly what God is crying out for you to do. God’s love for you is completely off the scale for ‘Craziness!’

Ephesians 3:14-19 For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.    I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
