As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.’ As many of you know at the beginning of this month we held a mission weekend hosted by Through Faith Missions in which ten evangelists joined us in putting on various events including dads and kids in the cafe, harvest outreach, café church and a healing and wholeness service.

They also visited the Southwold estate where in teams of two they approached 478 doors with a beliefs survey. Three they didn’t knock as they displayed a ‘No callers’ notice. 309 didn’t answer (some residents did not open the door or refused to undertake the survey on realising it was about beliefs). 166 surveys were completed and these were the answers;

Question 1 - What do you believe about God?
a. Just a force?
b. A distant being?
c. A personal God?
d. Non-existent
e. Something else?

35% believed in a personal God Question

a. We die and that’s it
b. We return to earth in another form or as another person
c. We all go to heaven
d. Some people go to heaven but others to hell
e. I am not sure
f. Something else

25% said they were not sure

Question 3. What do you believe about Jesus?
a. He didn’t exist at all
b. He was an ordinary man and nothing more
c. He was a prophet or messenger from God
d. He is the only Son of God
e. Other …

34% said they were not sure

Question 4. Have you ever had a spiritual experience? Or ever prayed about an issue?
49% said yes.

Of the 51% who had not had a spiritual experience they said they had prayed but did not feel they had had answers or that their prayers related to God. From the final question we can ascertain that people are open spiritually but the survey shows that their knowledge of Christ is limited.

Through faith missions have shown us through their actions and words, and reminded us as a church, that there are many people that need to know about Jesus.

So here lies a challenge to us all. How can we make a difference?

How then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how then can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ’How beautiful are the feet that bring good news.’ Who is God sending you to speak to today?
