Dear Friends today we celebrate Pentecost.
When year on year I came to preach& on this day when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit in power on God’s people, I struggled, not because I didn’t believe that it happened, but rather that it was a one-off.
Some years ago Erika and I were asked to lead a workshop at Spring Harvest on ‘Making disciples in a rural setting’. After consideration I turned down the invitation as I had nothing to share of any value on the subject.
Like many, I recall Love Bicester 2010 and the many events the churches in Bicester organised. Each day over that period, there were many events and the organisers hoped that people would come. We measured the outcome by how successful the attendance had been.
We've been looking at 'knowing my worth' at Thursday youth group. Last week were discussing the impact of social media on our lives. As I planned the session I was challenged; we often think of the youth of today as being 'saturated' by technology and social media, but how much are we as adults saturated by the same things?
In recent weeks we have heard two stories – both of them sad and yet inspirational. Mr Stephen Sutton, aged 19, was diagnosed with terminal cancer, but uses his situation as an opportunity to raise a huge sum of money for a cancer charity.
