This year has already been quite challenging for me in every area of my life; physical, emotional and spiritual. Without going into details, I have been in fairly intense physical pain, work pressures, and emotional pain. In this process, I feel a challenge to choose to trust and walk with God in it - and grow in Him through it.
Thought for the Week
Filter by month
There is a timeworn word ‘Journey’ used to describe Christian living. Our lives are not static – we go through various landscapes as we mature, and come across stumbling blocks. Learning to negotiate around these is what gives us character and strength to keep going. We learn who we really are, at core.
As farmers, we like to think of ourselves as good 'stewards of the countryside'. We look after our little patch, keeping them tidy (-ish!) and in good heart. But I feel challenged if I ask myself why?
My ‘thought for the week’ has actually been my ‘thought of the year’ with my last 12 months prayers and thoughts mainly dedicated to the question, What is Church? I would also (as the youth worker) like to write about the youth work in our church however I feel that demographic has featured heavily in my thoughts of ‘Church’.
One take on the end of Christ’s life is that it ended in abject failure. Sentenced to death for extremist preaching and propagating rebellion and sedition, he looks an isolated figure. Abandoned by his followers, even his closest friends denied knowing him, and he cries out to God ‘why have you forsaken me’. Failure indeed, from one perspective.
The question came from a five-year-old, who had not got full marks in a test - 'will God drop me?' The sincerity of the question, brought me close to tears as we spoke of God's amazing unconditional love, and prayed together.
