Sometimes there is a song that resonates deep within your soul. There is a song by Godfrey Birtill entitled ‘One Touch from the King changes everything’ which does that for me. It talks about a great darkness in our land and cries out to God in lament, for the light of the world to come and ‘change everything’.

BLISS! - I’m on leave.
This time last year, I would never have dreamt I’d have found myself in the North of Scotland writing these precise words, but then a lot has happened over the past year. Because I work full-time for the Navy, I find myself using the term ‘leave’ for the first time in 36 years (when I was last in the Navy) and it’s kind of weird.
"Carpe diem" – Seize the day, is a phrase that I have heard a lot in the media over the last few months. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is yet to come so today is the only certainty. It also reminds me of what Jesus said as part of the Sermon on the Mount; "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof".
Do you have the time?
I have recently been involved in several conversations with a few individuals, who were pushing a particular definition of identity in their own social context. When I later reflected on these conversations it seemed to me that, in part, they were pushing an identity of exclusion where you either qualified or not, and if you did not then you became other, and not part of us.
Somebody once said that fathers are like parking spaces – all the good ones are already taken.
Father’s Day for you may be a sweet celebration, or perhaps it is one that is tinged with bitterness. But you know what? This is what our God says about you: “I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)”
